If you would like to visit another academic library for research purposes or to use study spaces, you will need to check the access requirements of the library that you would like to visit, and whether it is part of the SCONUL Access scheme. You can check this by following the application steps on the SCONUL Access website. You will be asked what type of user you are (e.g. undergraduate student, distance learner, academic staff etc) and then you will be able to see a list of all of the libraries currently in the scheme that you can apply to visit. Select the one you want to visit and follow the application steps.
Once complete, the form will be sent to staff at the David Wilson Library for review. In order to qualify for access, you must be in good standing with our library, for example, have no outstanding fines, or overdue library books. If your application is accepted, you will receive an email with details of your application that you can take to apply at the university that you would like to visit. You must take your university ID card with you as well. You are strongly advised to check the website of the library you want to visit, or telephone in advance of your visit, to be sure about vacation dates, opening hours, documentation required and any restrictions that might be in place.
Once you have this acceptance email, it can be used within the date range to apply for any university in the scheme. You do not need to make a new application for each university you would like to visit, unless your previous application has expired.
Some university libraries are not part of the SCONUL scheme and have separate access requirements and restrictions. Please ensure you contact them to find out what documentation you need to take, and if access restrictions are in place.
