If you are a student or member of staff at another UK University, you can apply for access to the David Wilson Library. Your level of access will depend on the university that you attend. Please see our joining page for further information.

There is a two-step process to gain access and to use the David Wilson library. The University of Leicester is part of the SCONUL Access scheme. SCONUL Access is a scheme which allows many university library users to study spaces or books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme. If your university if part of this scheme, please complete the SCONUL access application online (your home university can help you with this if you are having any problems).

Once you have completed the SCONUL Access application, you will then need to apply to use the David Wilson library through our website by filling in the joining application form. https://le.ac.uk/library/using/joining/joining-application-form

If your university is not part of the SCONUL Access scheme you can apply directly to the David Wilson library through our website by filling in the joining application form. https://le.ac.uk/library/using/joining/joining-application-form for a vacation card. You will be able to access the library during University of Leicester vacation periods. Term dates can be found here, https://le.ac.uk/about/info/term-semester-dates

Once you have received an email from both SCONUL and the David Wilson library, you will need to come onto campus to the David Wilson library to complete your ID check.

For this we require two forms of ID and your university ID card, at least one containing the applicants current UK address, the other either photo ID. This can be a driver's licence, a utility bill, a bank statement or letter, any form of photo ID that shows corresponding name, passport or citizen card.

So for example, we could accept the following combinations of ID:

  • Driver's License (as Photo ID) and Bank Statement (as proof of Address)
  • Passport (as Photo ID) and Driver's License (as proof of Address)
  • Citizen Card (as photo ID) and Utility Bill (as proof of Address)

You will also need to bring your SCONUL Access acceptance email to complete your on-campus ID check.
