The books in the library are not arranged in alphabetical order, but are instead arranged according to the Dewey Decimal system. This is a classification system used to order books by subject area. Each book is given a number called a Shelf Mark which you can usually find on the spine of the book. The books are then arranged in numerical order. Letters after these numbers refer to the book's author or title and these run in alphabetical order.

When you search for a book using Library Search you'll be given the Shelf Mark and an indication of where the book is located within the Library.

You may find it useful to pick up one of our library guides which contain floor plans of the Library showing where the books are shelved. Please feel free to speak to a member of staff if you need help navigating the shelves and finding books; we're always happy to help.
