If you are receiving an error message when you are accessing an ebook, there could be several reasons for this. Please ensure that you are using Google Chrome, this is our recommended browser for ebooks and digital databases. If you are already using Chrome, or the problem still occurs when you have switched browsers, we advise you to follow the the steps below to clear your cache and cookies:

  1. In the top right corner of the browser, select the three dots.
  2. Choose History > History from the menu.
  3. The browsing history tab will open. Go to Clear browsing data on the left of the screen.
  4. Set the time range (All Time is recommended), and ensure Cookies and Cached images and files are ticked.
  5. Select Clear data.

One the data has been deleted, either close and re-open the browser window or press F5 to refresh. We find that this often helps to fix a number of ebook/database access problems, however, if you are still experiencing problems, please contact library@le.ac.uk and provide the details of the book that you are trying to access, along with screenshots of any error messages that you are seeing.

Please note that Safari does not always work well with e-resources, so it's advised that another browser is tried if you are experiencing the problem on Safari. Old versions of Adobe can also produce error messages. If you need help changing or updating your browser or Adobe, please contact Digital Services (ithelp@le.ac.uk).

All our eBooks are hosted by external suppliers and occasionally access issues are due to maintenance work or server problems. We work with our suppliers to ensure that disruptions are kept to a minimum. However, as some of our suppliers are outside the UK, there may be a delay in resolving a problem as remedial works may be scheduled in off-peak times which are different from those in our own time zone.
