The University Library is currently providing a Click & Collect service to support essential University research for University Staff and Postgraduate Research students.

Current University of Leicester staff and Postgraduate Research students can request items to be retrieved from the David Wilson Library’s lending collections (excluding Archives and Special Collections). Requests should be made through Library Search. When your book is ready for collection an email will be sent to your University email address, you can then collect your book from the designated collection point in the David Wilson Library foyer.  You will need your University ID and to have downloaded the University Safe Zone app when coming onto the campus. You will be able to collect items Monday to Friday, between 11am and 3pm.

Please note that there are no toilet facilities near the collection point, and parking spaces are limited.

Who is eligible to use Click & Collect?

The service is currently available to University staff and Postgraduate Research students only, as part of the support required for essential research. We will keep this under review and expect to extend the service to our other students at a later date as the campus re-opens beyond essential research and local lock down restrictions are eased.

How does the service work?

You should begin by logging into Library Search at https://librarysearch.le.ac.uk/ using your University IT login details and searching for the item you require. You will then be able to request eligible Click & Collect items by clicking on the title and  ‘Request’ next to the item. Please note that not everything may be immediately available, for example, if an item is on loan to another person. You may request up to 25 items in total at a time.

Once the books are retrieved, you will receive a confirmation email which includes information about how to collect your book. You will need to have your University ID with you and log onto the Safe Zone app when coming onto campus.

When you arrive at the David Wilson Library, please follow signs to the designated collection point inside the Library foyer.

Whilst collecting your books, please observe social distancing at all times by following the designated one way system and maintaining a 2 metre distance from others. Hand sanitiser is available to use before and after collecting your books.

The books for collection will have been issued to your library account and will have been placed on a trolley with a slip showing the first four letters of your surname and last 4 numbers of your library number. You will need to bring your own bag for carrying your collected books.

How are you ensuring my safety and the safety of library staff?

The safety of library users and library staff is paramount, and at the heart of all of our planning.

Collection is by self-service only, the collection point is not staffed and there is no entry allowed beyond the collection point and further into the Library building. We are operating a one-way system in the library entrance and floor markings for social distancing are provided, along with hand sanitiser.

We are minimising handling of books and all other materials and we request that you do not use anti-bacterial wipes on any library books as this may cause damage.

What can I request?

You may only request books from the David Wilson Library’s lending collections. You may request 25 items in total at a time.  No reference items may be borrowed. At present access to our Archives and Special Collections is not available, this will be reviewed in line with further changes to the lock down and further phased opening of the campus.

How quickly can I collect the books?

We anticipate that you will be able to collect books, subject to their availability within 48 hours (excluding weekends) after ordering, although it depends on your availability to collect. Books will be held at the collection point for 7 days before they are eligible for request by someone else. If you miss collecting your items or no longer require them please let us know, by emailing library@leicester.ac.uk.

Can I return books at the same time?

Sorry, no during the current Leicester lock down we will not be accepting returned books. This will be reviewed in line with any further lock down changes and further phased opening of the campus.

Can someone else collect books on my behalf?

Sorry, no during the current Leicester lock down access to the campus is for University staff and Postgraduate Research students conducting essential research only. This will be reviewed in line with any further lock down changes and further phased opening of the campus.

Can I borrow books from other libraries?

Click & Collect is limited to items within the David Wilson Library’s lending collections at present.

Is there anything else I should know?

Please note that there is no access to toilet facilities near the collection point or in the David Wilson Library.

If you have further questions about Click & Collect, please email the library at library@leicester.ac.uk
