Can I access databases the British Library subscribes to?

Answer

The British Library subscribes to a number of databases and digital resources. Some  of these are now available to registered readers via remote access (i.e. readers can access them at home): https://www.bl.uk/help/about-remote-eresources

This includes some important resources that we do not subscribe too:

  • America, History & Life

  • British Education Index
  • ERIC

  • EconLit

  • Historical Abstracts

  • African American Newspapers, Early American Newspapers, Caribbean Newspapers, Latin American Newspapers, South Asian Newspapers.

The full list is available here. (The list also includes databases that can only be accessed in the reading rooms in the British Library.)

Staff or students who want to use these resources need a valid readers' ticket, which they must get from St Pancras or Boston Spa. Even so, this is probably the best way for Leicester users to access digital resources we do not subscribe, as SCONUL institutions rarely offer access like this.
