Can I access Medicines Complete?

The Library has access to only some sections of Medicines Complete.

Answer

There is access only to:

  • ASHP Injectable Drug Information
  • British National Formulary (BNF)*
  • British National Formulary for Children (BNFc)*
  • Drug Administration via Enteral Feeding Tubes
  • Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation
  • Extended Stability for Parenteral Drugs
  • Herbal Medicines
  • Palliative Care Formulary
  • Psychotropic Drug Directory
  • Stockley’s Drug Interactions

*Note that you must use the BNF and BNFc through Medicines Complete for course work and not the NICE BNF, which may only be used in the NHS.

The individual sections of Medicines Complete can be found in Library Search.  There is a link to the collection in the Databases A-Z.  If you see a message "Sorry, something went wrong trying to log in to SAMS Sigma" when you click a link, clear your browser cache and cookies, refresh the page, and click the link in Library Search or the Databases A-Z again.   (You may see this error if you have recently used NHS Athens).

Or, access Medicines Complete at this link, and scroll down to "Browse our Publications - Subscribed".   If you access Medicines Complete via a search engine, and are off campus, click Login, then Login via Shibboleth/Open Athens, search for University of Leicester and follow the on screen instructions.   Then go to "Browse our Publications - Subscribed".

There is no access to the sections listed under "Browse our Publications - Unsubscribed".
