Does the Library accept book donations?

Answer

General book donations are not currently being accepted by the University Library.

Enquiries related to gifts of archival materials, items published before 1850 or other rare material should be directed to Dr Simon Dixon, Head of Archives and Special Collections at snd6@leicester.ac.uk.

All other gift and donation enquiries should be sent to Sarah Whittaker, Head of Academic Services at srw9@leicester.ac.uk

In general, the Library, subject to evaluation, accepts the donation of material which supports the University’s teaching and research in current subject areas. The criteria used in assessing proposed donations are:

  • Whether the item is already held
  • Relevance to the University’s current teaching or research
  • The condition of the item
  • Space available to accommodate the item appropriately

Any donations are accepted on the understanding that they become the property of the University of Leicester and cannot be returned. Donations will not necessarily be retained permanently by the Library if they no longer meet the collection development strategy.
