Special Collections books have the location David Wilson Library Basement Rare Books in Library Search

Library Search entry for Sue Townsend

These are usually books that were published before 1850 or have other features that make them rare or unique. 

These items can be viewed by appointment in the Kirby and West Special Collections suite in the David Wilson Library Basement. 

Request a book online

  1. Login to My Library Account
  2. Find the item that you would like to consult in Library Search.
  3. Click GET IT on the left hand menu and then select the Request link. 
  4. On the screen that follows, choose Request again to complete your request. 

You will receive an email when your book is ready to consult inviting you to make an appointment to view it. Books are usually available within one working day of the request.

  1. Find the item that you want to consult in Library Search
  2. Make a note of the author, title and shelf mark. The shelf mark can be found next to Available at: David Wilson Library: Basement Rare Books and usually begins with the letters SC
  3. Call 0116 252 2056 or email specialcollections@le.ac.uk with the details of the book and to arrange an appointment to visit. 

Consulting your book

  • External visitors to Archives and Special Collections are asked to join the Library before visiting for the first time. Visitors, members of the public and alumni can request a registration form when arranging their appointment. 
  • All items are consulted in the Special Collections reading room during our advertised opening hours.  
  • Special Collections items are rare or unique and require careful handling. Further information about our access arrangements can be found on our website.
