If you are a University of Leicester student and need a laptop, the Library has a variety of options to borrow:

  • 4-Hour Loan Laptops, which can be borrowed from the cabinet near the Information Hub.
  • 48-Hour Loan Laptops, which can be borrowed at the Information Hub desk.
  • 28-Day Loan Laptops, which can also be borrowed at the Information Hub desk.

Please note that your Student ID is required to borrow a laptop. If you require a 48 Hour or 28 Day Loan laptop and none are available, you can place a request for one instead via the Library Search

The 4-Hour Loan Laptops are loaned on their own and will only work on-campus.

The 48-Hour and 28-Day Loan Laptops are loaned with a laptop case and charger, and will work off-campus provided that the set-up instructions (found in each laptop bag) are followed before use.

Any laptop loaned from the Library, no matter which type, should not be taken outside of the United Kingdom.

Please also note that the loanable laptops are meant for short-term use. If you require a laptop for a longer period than 28 days and are unable to obtain one for financial reasons, we would recommend that you contact the University's Welfare team at welfare@le.ac.uk or 0116 223 1185. They will be able to advise whether any further support is available to you.

As the laptops are high demand items, overdue laptops will incur a £5 fine per day or part of day. It is therefore your responsibility to be aware of the due date and due time of a laptop and return it on time. Additionally, you can only loan one laptop at a time.

If a laptop is lost, damaged, or remains unreturned the Library reserves the right to charge replacement costs, which is currently £1,095, plus the cost of any accessories.

There are also a variety of PCs available for student use both in the Library and across campus. For further information, please see the Find a PC webpages.
