How do I find an evidence based summary of a health condition?
Here are some tips for finding evidence based summaries of how to diagnose, manage and treat a disease or health condition.
Answer
BMJ Best Practice
BMJ Best Practice is designed to be used at point of care. To access BMJ Best Practice, you need an NHS Athens account.
Here are login instructions for BMJ Best Practice. There is an app, which can be used offline. We recommend using the app online from time to time to ensure it is updated.
Information will be divided into sections and there may be an overview, and sections about theory, diagnosis, management and follow up. The information is referenced, and will be updated if new evidence becomes available. New topics are added from time to time.
Under Resources > Guidelines > United Kingdom there are links to guidelines including ones from NICE. In the app, you need to click the title to see the source of the guideline. Not all NICE guideline series are included . There may also be links to guidelines from other UK based organisations including SIGN.
Under Resources there may also be a link to Patient Information, that is, information to be given to patients.
